Continuing our committment to helping our customers avoid some common causes of damage to their properties.

Fire is a major risk with property insurance, with policyholders able to take reasonable precautions to help prevent claims occuring at their premises, or to limit the damage should an incident arise.

  1. Smoke Detectors will alert you early on to the possibility of a fire give you warning that the premises must be vacated. Always check to ensure that your installed smoke are working and replace the batteries if they are running down.
  2. Whilst not always a necessity we would recommend the installation of one or more fire extinguishers and/or fire blankets at your property.
  3. Do not leave naked flames, such as candles, unattended or where they could be knocked over.
  4. Arrange for a qualified electrician to perform a safety check your electrical installation and electrical goods on a regular basis to reduce the risk of electrical faults which could lead to a fire. If you notice any frayed or broken wires stop using the item immediately and arrange it to be fixed.
  5. Take care when frying to ensure that the oil does not overheat and catch fire, do not overfill chip pans and never put water on to hot fat.
  6. Plan an escape route and make sure everyone knows it! This is very important if you have a fire to ensure everyone can get out. And once you are out, stay out!
